The Art of Dating Yourself: Embracing Solitude and Connection

In a world that often promotes the hustle and bustle of social gatherings, there's something uniquely empowering about taking yourself out on a date. Recently, I experienced this firsthand when I attended an Eagles concert at the Sphere in Las Vegas—alone. It was a night filled with music, reflection, and unexpected connections, and it reminded me of the beauty in spending time with yourself.

Choosing to spend 48 hours in “solitude” can be a transformative experience. It’s a chance to silence the noise around us and travel inward, seeking to understand our true selves. I made a conscious decis

ion not to indulge in alcohol or play any slot machines—just me, the music, and my thoughts. This intentional choice allowed me to fully immerse myself in the experience, relishing each moment.

As I sat at the bar to eat dinner before the concert, I struck up a conversation with a lively couple from Long Island. Joe saw his first Eagles concert at Nassau Coliseum in 1976!

He had seen the Eagles over 10 times in concert since then, amazing!! I have only seen Bon Jovi and Billy Joel more than once in concert, what about you? Is there a concert that you love so much you’ve seen more than once?

Conversation then turned towards 9/11, as it often does when I am asked how I landed in California.  We had a solemn moment and a knowingness about the loss we experienced and how America changed forever that day. He lost a lot of friends that were fire fighters and police officers.

For me it was also a reminder to always Extend Grace as the trauma from our past travels with us forever.

The couple next to me at the concert was equally delightful and from Kansas.  For me Kansas and Silpada are synonymous!  Not only had she heard of the brand she had “a ton of Silpada”  We were both wearing fluffy jackets, and discovered that we were born just a day and a decade apart.  Kindred spirits from the get go.  We sang along to every song, and it made the concert that much more enjoyable. I am really grateful they were next to me.  Lori it will be fun to see you the next time my travels take me to Kansas.

PSA if you plan to attend this concert: The Eagles request that everyone stays seated for the whole concert. I thought that by getting a floor ticket that would not be the case as it did not say it when I purchased the tickets anywhere, but I did befriend a security guard and he explained to me that it was the wishes of the band.  We did end up managing to dance a couple of times.  I have never been to a concert like that where I’ve had to sit the entire time.

Overall what struck me most about the night was how these spontaneous interactions enriched my experience. While I initially set out for a night of solitude, I found connection in the most unexpected places. It reinforced the idea that dating yourself doesn’t mean isolating yourself; rather, it opens the door to new friendships and experiences.

So here’s my encouragement to you: take yourself out on a date. Explore the world around you, embrace the silence, and discover the depths of your own thoughts. Whether it’s traveling abroad, attending a concert, dining at a favorite restaurant, or taking a peaceful walk, the journey within can lead to beautiful revelations.

Remember, you don’t have to wait for someone else to join you. Your own company can be the most rewarding experience of all. Date yourself—you might just find that the adventure is more fulfilling than you ever imagined.

Planning my next date, what should we do next?

XOXO,

Aimee
